How to Deliver White-Label Articulate Rise Courses to Clients

If you build courses for other companies, you already know the moment. The course is done, the client loves it, and then someone on their side opens the package in the LMS and asks why there is a third-party name in there, or why the colors don't match their brand book, or what happens to the course when your authoring subscription ends.

This post is about that last mile: handing over a Rise course that looks like it was made in-house by your client, works in their LMS, and doesn't depend on your tools to keep running. Articulate and Rise are trademarks of Articulate Global, LLC. We mention them only to describe the files you are working with. SCORM Craft is an independent tool and isn't affiliated with them.

What "white-label" actually means for an e-learning course

People use the term loosely, so it helps to pin it down. For a client delivery, a white-label course usually needs four things:

  1. The client's identity everywhere the learner looks. Logo, course name, colors and fonts that match their brand.
  2. No leftover vendor branding. No references to the agency, the authoring tool or the original template in the player or the package metadata.
  3. Tracking that still works. Completion, quiz scores and progress have to reach the LMS exactly as before.
  4. Independence. The course should keep working after you stop paying for any tool, and after the client stops working with you.

Most delivery problems come from treating only the first point and forgetting the other three.

Why this gets messy with Rise exports

Rise is great for building. It's fast, it looks good, and clients like the result. Delivery is where the friction shows up.

Branding is tied to the authoring account

Theme options in Rise are limited, and changing branding means opening the source in the authoring tool again. If you have ten clients reusing a base course, that's ten copies to maintain inside one account.

The runtime travels with the package

A Rise SCORM export ships with its own player and runtime files. That's normal, but it means the package carries more of the original tool than most clients expect when they inspect it.

Access depends on a subscription

Freelancers often work on a trial or a single seat. When the trial ends or the seat goes to someone else, editing the source is no longer an option. If a client asks for a logo change six months later, you can be stuck.

A delivery workflow that holds up

Here's the process we recommend, whether you use SCORM Craft or not.

1. Lock the content before branding

Get written sign-off on text, media and quizzes first. Branding should be the last layer, not something you redo every time a paragraph changes.

2. Collect a brand kit from the client

Ask for a logo in SVG or high-resolution PNG, the primary and secondary colors in hex, the exact course title they want learners to see, and any font preferences. Get this in one email so nobody is guessing later.

3. Ask which LMS and which format

Don't assume SCORM 1.2. Ask the client's LMS admin what they support and what they prefer. Some want SCORM 2004 for better sequencing, some run an LRS and want xAPI or cmi5, and a few just need a web version to host on an intranet. If you're unsure about the differences, our SCORM formats guide covers them.

4. Rebrand the export, not the source

Instead of maintaining a copy of the source per client, keep one master course and apply branding to the exported package. That's what SCORM Craft does: you upload the .zip, set the logo, name and colors, and it rebuilds the course with its own runtime while keeping quizzes, scoring and tracking. You can output SCORM 1.2, SCORM 2004, AICC, xAPI, cmi5 or a standalone web version from the same upload.

5. Test in a real LMS before handing over

Upload the package to SCORM Cloud or a test instance of the client's LMS. Check three things: the course launches, a completed quiz reports a score, and closing and reopening resumes where the learner left off. Takes ten minutes and saves awkward emails.

6. Hand over with a short note

Include the package, the format it was built for, and a line on how to request changes. Clients appreciate knowing a logo update won't mean rebuilding the course.

How much should this cost you?

It depends on volume. If you rebrand by hand in the authoring tool, the cost is your time plus the seat. If you use SCORM Craft, branding and preview are free and you pay USD 19 once per course when you download. Changing the branding later and downloading again doesn't cost extra, which matters when a client rebrands mid-year.

For an agency charging a few hundred dollars per client delivery, that's a small line item. For a freelancer whose Rise trial just expired, it can be the difference between delivering and starting over. If that's your situation, read what to do when your Rise trial expires.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Sending the raw export. It works, but the client sees someone else's branding and may wonder what they paid for.
  • Changing the format without testing. A course that tracked fine in SCORM 1.2 can behave differently in 2004 if the LMS is strict about completion rules.
  • Forgetting the course title in the manifest. The LMS catalog shows the package title, not just what appears on screen. Make sure it's the client's name for the course.
  • No plan for updates. Decide upfront who changes what and how much it costs.

FAQ

Can I rebrand a Rise course without the original source file?

Yes, if you have the exported SCORM or web .zip. SCORM Craft works on the export, so you don't need to reopen the authoring tool.

Will quizzes and completion still be tracked?

Yes. Quizzes, scores and completion are kept and reported to the LMS through the new runtime.

Which format should I deliver?

Whatever the client's LMS supports best. SCORM 1.2 is the safest default; SCORM 2004, xAPI and cmi5 add capabilities if the platform supports them.

Do I pay per client or per course?

Per course: USD 19, one time, with free re-downloads when you change the branding. The preview is free.

Try it with one of your courses

Pick a course you delivered recently, upload the export to scormcraft.app, and put your client's logo and colors on it. The preview is free, so you'll see the result before you decide anything. If it's ready to hand over, the download is USD 19.
