Articulate Rise Trial: What You Can Export Before It Ends

The Rise 360 trial gives you 14 days. If you want to keep using the course after day 14, you need to export it before access ends. Here is what the trial includes, what happens when it expires, and how to preserve your work.

What the Articulate Rise trial includes

Articulate offers a 14-day free trial of Articulate 360, the suite that includes Rise 360. You do not need a credit card to start, and during the trial you get access to the Rise authoring canvas, templates, block library, and publishing options.

For the purpose of keeping a course, the important part is publishing. Rise can publish a course as:

  • SCORM 1.2
  • SCORM 2004
  • AICC
  • xAPI (Tin Can)
  • cmi5
  • Web (standalone HTML)

Articulate's current trial terms and publishing options are the source of truth. Check them before you rely on a specific format for an LMS.

The practical takeaway: two weeks is enough to finish and export a focused course. It is not a permanent hosting or editing plan.

What happens when the Rise trial ends

When the trial expires, your Articulate 360 access ends. In practice, that means:

  • You cannot keep editing the Rise course in the authoring tool.
  • You cannot publish a new version or download the source from Rise.
  • Rise share links stop working, so a link is not a backup.
  • Articulate says it may retain course data for a period after the trial, but you should not count on being able to download it later.

The one thing that keeps working is a published package you already exported and saved. A SCORM ZIP is self-contained: it includes the course, its assets, and the manifest an LMS needs.

That is why the safe workflow is simple: export before the trial ends, keep the ZIP, and test it in your LMS.

How to export a Rise course before the trial ends

  1. Finish the content first. Exporting a half-finished course only gives you a half-finished package.
  2. Open the course in Rise 360 and choose Publish.
  3. Choose LMS and select the format your LMS accepts. SCORM 1.2 is the safest default; SCORM 2004 is common in corporate LMSs that need more navigation control.
  4. Adjust the publish settings (title, reporting, completion, launch behavior) for your LMS.
  5. Download the ZIP and keep the original file. Do not rename or unpack it unless your LMS documentation says to.
  6. Upload it to a test course in your LMS and complete a lesson, a quiz, and the course. Check that completion and score are reported.

If the course will be delivered to a client, export it early enough to leave time for LMS testing and a revision. Do not plan to export on the last day of the trial.

What to do with the ZIP after the trial

A Rise export still carries the Rise player, its runtime, and the visual language of the source course. If you need the course to look like your brand, or you need a different export format later, you do not have to rebuild every lesson.

SCORM Craft takes the exported ZIP, rebuilds it as a clean HTML course, and lets you apply your logo, colors, cover, author name, and player language. The quizzes, interactions, scoring, and completion logic stay in place. You can then download:

  • SCORM 1.2
  • SCORM 2004
  • AICC
  • xAPI
  • cmi5
  • Standalone Web

You still need Rise (trial or paid) to create the original course. SCORM Craft starts with the package you already exported. It is a rebranding and re-export tool, not a replacement authoring canvas.

Good fit: you have a Rise ZIP, you need client branding, and you do not want to pay for another month of Articulate 360 just to change a logo and publish again.

A five-minute checklist for trial users

  • Export the final Rise course as a SCORM ZIP before the trial ends.
  • Keep the ZIP in two places (local drive and cloud storage).
  • Test the package in the exact LMS your audience will use.
  • Save a short recording or screenshots of the course for reference.
  • If you need your own branding, rebuild the ZIP with SCORM Craft and keep both versions.

If you are still inside the trial and the course is for a client, export a review build now. You can always export again after feedback, as long as the trial is active.

Can I export after the trial has ended?

In general, no. Once the trial ends, Rise stops giving you authoring and download access. Contact Articulate support if you need help with a course you did not export; they may be able to advise you, but SCORM Craft cannot access Articulate's servers or recover a course that was never exported.

If you already have the ZIP, you are in good shape. Upload it to SCORM Craft, preview it, and decide whether you need a rebrand before you publish it to your LMS.

Frequently asked questions

How long is the Articulate Rise trial?

Articulate currently offers a 14-day free trial of Articulate 360, which includes Rise 360. Check Articulate’s trial page for the current terms before you plan a deadline.

Can I publish a course during the Rise trial?

Yes. During the trial you can use Rise’s publishing options, including SCORM, AICC, xAPI, cmi5, and web output. Export the package before the trial ends.

What happens to my Rise course when the trial expires?

You lose authoring and download access, and Rise share links stop working. A SCORM ZIP that you already exported remains usable because it contains the course and its assets.

Can SCORM Craft recover a Rise course I did not export?

No. SCORM Craft works from a package you upload. It cannot access your Articulate account or rebuild a course that was never exported.

Do I need Articulate 360 to use SCORM Craft?

You need a Rise-exported ZIP to start. You do not need an active Articulate subscription to rebrand or re-export that ZIP with SCORM Craft.
