Articulate Rise to SCORM: The Complete Export Guide

Rise already exports SCORM. So why would you rebuild the package? Because the default export carries Rise’s player and visual language, and it may not match your client’s brand or your LMS requirements. This guide covers both paths.

How to export Articulate Rise to SCORM

  1. Open the course in Rise 360.
  2. Choose Publish.
  3. Select LMS.
  4. Choose SCORM 1.2 or SCORM 2004. If your LMS supports both, start with SCORM 1.2 for maximum compatibility.
  5. Set the course title, reporting, and completion options.
  6. Publish and download the ZIP.

The ZIP is the package your LMS imports. Keep it intact; do not unzip it into the LMS unless your LMS documentation explicitly asks for that.

What is inside a Rise SCORM package

A typical Rise export contains:

  • imsmanifest.xml — the SCORM manifest that tells the LMS what to launch and what to track.
  • scormcontent/ — the course HTML, lesson data, images, video, audio, and fonts.
  • scormdriver/ — the runtime that connects the course to the LMS API.
  • runtime-data.js and related files — the course structure and runtime configuration.

The package is self-contained, which is why a ZIP you exported during a trial can keep working after the trial ends.

Why rebuild a Rise SCORM package?

There are three common reasons:

  • Client branding. The course needs the client’s logo, colors, cover, author name, and tone, not the source course’s branding.
  • A cleaner player. A rebuilt package can use a lighter, purpose-built HTML player instead of the full third-party runtime.
  • Format flexibility. You may need SCORM 2004, AICC, xAPI, cmi5, or a standalone web build from the same course.

Rebuilding is not the same as rewriting. The lesson content, quizzes, interactions, scoring, and completion logic stay in place; the presentation and package around them change.

SCORM 1.2 or SCORM 2004?

FormatBest forWatch out for
SCORM 1.2Older LMSs, maximum compatibility, simple completion and score trackingLimited sequencing and navigation features
SCORM 2004LMSs that support sequencing, navigation rules, and richer status reportingEdition differences (3rd vs 4th) and LMS-specific behavior

If you do not know which one your LMS needs, check its documentation. When both are supported, SCORM 1.2 is the lower-risk first test.

Rebrand the package without rebuilding the course

  1. Upload the Rise ZIP to SCORM Craft.
  2. Add your logo, brand name, colors, cover image, author credit, and player language.
  3. Preview the rebuilt course and check a few lessons, a quiz, and the completion flow.
  4. Pay the one-time $19 fee when you are ready to download.
  5. Choose SCORM 1.2, SCORM 2004, AICC, xAPI, cmi5, or Web.
  6. Import the downloaded ZIP into your LMS and test completion and score reporting.

You can return later and rebuild again after a branding change without paying for another authoring seat.

A short LMS checklist

  • Does the LMS accept SCORM 1.2, SCORM 2004, AICC, xAPI, or cmi5?
  • Does it launch the package from the correct manifest file?
  • Does completion fire after the final lesson or quiz?
  • Does the score appear in the gradebook or report?
  • Does resume behavior work after closing and reopening the course?
  • Does the course work in the browsers and devices your learners use?

Test with a small pilot group before a full rollout. Most “SCORM problems” are LMS configuration or manifest issues, not content issues.

Frequently asked questions

Does Articulate Rise export SCORM?

Yes. Rise 360 can publish SCORM 1.2, SCORM 2004, AICC, xAPI, cmi5, and web output, depending on the current product version and your publishing settings.

Can I convert a Rise course to SCORM 2004 after exporting?

Yes. Export the Rise package, then rebuild it with SCORM Craft and choose SCORM 2004. You do not need to rebuild the lessons by hand.

Will my quizzes and tracking still work after rebranding?

SCORM Craft preserves the course structure, quizzes, scoring, completion, and tracking behavior. Always test the final package in your LMS; LMS configuration can affect reporting.

Do I need the original Rise project file?

No. You need the exported SCORM ZIP. The project file is only useful if you want to edit the course inside Rise.

Can I rebrand a Rise course for a client?

Only if you own the course or have permission to modify and rebrand it. Check your agreement with the client and Articulate’s terms. SCORM Craft does not grant content rights.
